Valkyrie: "Long live our holy Germany!"

Official Site: valkyrie.unitedartists.com
Director(s): Bryan Singer
Writer(s): Christopher McQuarrie, Nathan Alexander
Producer(s): Gilbert Adler, Christopher McQuarrie, Bryan Singer,

Starring: Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Carice van Houte, Thomas Kretschmann, Terence Stamp(IMDb).

Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg was one the key conspirators who wanted to assassinate Hitler because he wanted Germany to be a country that was far different from the one Hitler built. The conspiracy to remove Hitler from power would be consummated by activating the reserve army against the SS, on the pretext of an SS insurrection. After planting a bomb next to Hitler in a meeting, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg and his co-conspirators began seizing control of Hitler's Germany.

This film makes history interesting for those who are not so historically inclined. The plot is clearly presented with no deviation. In the course of the entire film, although the multitude of personages were somewhat difficult to track, these characters were so interesting and powerful that they left an impression despite not knowing who they were in detail. The suspense in the film also contributed to the film being interesting. Not only was this film insightful, it was entertaining, and again making it very interesting.

Great acting, great casting, great sound work, and great production, Valkyrie was a generally well crafted film that featured men and women who risked their lives so that an entire country could live without dictatorial restraints. Good Stuff. I'll grade it between an A-and B+. Rated Pg-13, 120 minutes.

Doubt: Gossip

Official Site: doubt-themovie.com
Director(s): John Patrick Shanley
Writer(s): John Patrick Shanley
Producer(s): Scott Rudin

Starring: Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Viola Davis, and Joseph Foster(IMDb). Rated Pg-13, 104 minutes.

Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Streep) developed a skeptical attitude toward Father Brendan Flynn(Hoffman), first, after she saw a student pull away from him as he asked the young man about his fingernails, and second, after she attended the father's sermon about doubt. Her skepticism of Father Flynn transformed into a brand certainty when she learned of Father Flynn's very close relationship with Donald Miller(Joseph Foster).

I don't know if the acting could have been any better. The performances were amazing. In character, Hoffman and Streep seemed to have a sophisticated dislike for each other. There was shouting, and wit, in those heated arguments that were performed impeccably. Hoffman's facial expressions of anger were so genuine, while Streep displayed contradictorily stoic but yet angry facial expressions.

There were two key scenes in this film. The first scene was the meeting between Father Flynn, Sister James(Amy Adams), and Sister Beauvier about his relationship with Donald Miller. The second scene was the meeting between Sister Beauvier, and Mrs. Miller. The second scene is the one to watch for.

According to metacritic.com the film received generally favorable reviews, and according to rottentomatoes.com the film earned 98 fresh tomatoes to 31 rotten ones thus far. Great film. I'll grade it between an A- and B+.

The Spirit: The Perfect Ass

Official Site: mycityscreams.com
Director(s): Frank Miller,
Writer(s): Will Eisner, Frank Miller
Producer(s): Deborah Del Prete, Gigi Pritzker, Michael E. Uslan

Starring: Gabriel Macht, Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Paulson,(IMDb). Rated PG-13. 103 minutes.

Initially "The Spirit" does not know how he became invincible, but later while in captivity by the hands of "The Octopus" he finds out. His invincibility led him to become a superhero who defended the city from The Octopus. However, he has someone else to worry about, his childhood crush who grew into a criminal called Sand Saref.

My main expectation for this film was not met. That expectation was really cool action scenes. Notably these scenes were missing, and the scenes that were in the movie were teasers more than anything, because I felt as if they could have been more exciting. In about two of the scenes, instead of seeing the actual fight, the fight was seen as a shadow on the wall as oppose to that actual actors.

The plot of the film was not emphasized to the point that it was clearly presented. Myth driven , Sand Saref was searching for the golden treasure of Jason and the Argonauts, while " The Octopus" searched for the blood of Hercules. The search for these treasures were not the core element of the film, and it was difficult to describe what the core element was, it seemed like the plot was lost in the effort of making the film cool.

Indeed the appearance of he film was cool, and furthermore it was surprisingly funny, and perhaps the film should of been advertised as an action comedy. The Spirit was entertaining because of its quirky lines, and its aesthetic appeal. Samuel Jackson was funny, and Eva Mendez was perfect for the role. According to metacritic.com the film received generally negative reviews. And according to rottentomatoes.com the film earned 9 fresh tomatoes to 47 rotten ones thus far. This film was OK, I'll give it a C. Stay tuned, movieporium.blogspot.com.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button: Struck By Lightning Seven Times

Official Site: www.benjaminbutton.com
Director(s): David Fincher
Writer(s): Eric Roth, Robin Swicord
Producer(s): Ceán Chaffin, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall

Starring: Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Julia Ormond, Jason Flemyng, Taraji P. Henson(IMDb). Rated PG-13. 159 minutes.

Benjamin Button was born an old baby. Nice and wrinkled. His father Thomas Button(Jason Flemyng) was horrified by this grotesque baby. Witnessing this abnormal birth led him to abandon Benjamin on the steps of a retirement home, where he would be loved an raised by Queenie (Taraji P. Henson), the woman who became Benjamin's mother, and unlike Thomas Button, Queenie considered Benjamin a miracle.

Upon seeing the trailer for this film, I expected to see something unique, long, and interesting, and indeed the film was just that. Benjamin had a fascinating life, characterized by people of different vocations, and ambitions. Seemingly, Benjamin's life was shaped more by the people he met rather than what he did for a living. Benjamin would inherit some wealth but not the sort that enabled him to live a decadent life. A very humble man, who was slow to anger, Benjamin loved people more than anything else.

The film was well casted. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett had awesome chemistry on screen, same as they did in Babel, and the rest of the cast performed marvelously .The pace of the film was slow on the precipice of boredom, but it certainly was not boring. It's difficult to describe the tone of the film. The word that comes to mind is tranquil. This film had its sad moments and funny ones as well. The main theme of the film indicated even if one were to age backward, there is the impending doom of youth, and at one point in the film I felt how alone Benjamin was because of his condition.

According to metacritic.com, the film received generally favorable reviews, and according to rottentomatoes.com the film received 85 fresh tomatoes to 31 rotten ones thus far. Good Stuff! I'll grade it between an A- and a B+. Stay tuned, movieporium.blogspot.com. Benjamin Button Script.

What Would Jesus Buy?

Christmas means gifts, long work hours, holiday parties with family and friends, frustration because a retail store does not have the gift you want in stock, and increased debt. This documentary focuses on debt related to Christmas, consumerism associated with Christmas, and the powerful corporations such as Walmart, and Disney that benefit from mass consumerism.

Last night I spent time with my best friend and his family at the usual Christmas eve party, and one of his family members mentioned how much work is involved in Christmas. She had to set her alarm one morning just to wake up early to wrap gifts, and one Christmas she hid a gift in her closet that she completely forgot about. During that conversation my best friend mentioned that Christmas was far more enjoyable when he was kid. Well, that's probably because he was receiving the gifts, and not shopping for them.

Karate Kid Remake Set For 2010

According to the Huffingtonpost.com there will be a remake of The Karate Kid, starring Jayden Smith (Will Smith's son) who actually trains in martial arts. The story will remain the same, but the locations are different. The film will be shot overseas starting next year in Beijing and other cities. Will Smith will be one of the producers, and China Film Group will co-produce, and the film will be released by Columbia Pictures. Chris Murphy is writing the script.

I 'm curious about this remake, but who will replace Mr. Miyagi. No one! Wax on wax off as become part of American vernacular.Only Pat Morita can say that line. Well, let us see what happens. Will Smith is involved so maybe this will not be all that bad. Karate Kid Full Length Film. Karate Kid Script.

Dark Knight Sequel Poster ?

Yes, it is here already! With very little time to spare we get a glimpse of what is to come for the next Batman movie. Based on the poster, the villain appears to be "The Riddler". The face of the supposed Riddler is not shown; we only see his hands hinting to us that he's crafting riddles from newspaper print. This is an amazing poster that was made by a fan. So sorry. Hey, I fell for it too. It is that well made. Amazing! I was so excited when I saw this poster because it truthfully seemed like a Dark Knight poster. Mysterious, but yet simple and powerful. The dark element of this poster is what fooled me. The style of this poster appears consistent with Christopher Nolan's style. Even with a character like "The Joker" who has traditionally been drawn wearing very bright colors, Nolan directed darker shades for The Joker's outfits. Looking at this poster, one assumes that the dark tone of the poster is considerably close to what Nolan would have directed, for it stands as an antithesis to the effulgence of the former franchise.

Thundercats Set For 2010

Thundercats is set for release for 2010, but it will not be a live action film; it will be a CGI animation film. Jerry O' Flaherty, art director of Gears of War,will direct the film. Flaherty wants the film to be true to the 80's cartoon, but he also wants to create a film that will be palpable for those who are not familiar with Thundercats.

Che Guevara Trailer

While this film appears to feature a great performance by Benicio Del Toro and great directing by Steven Soderbergh(Oceans 11 and 13), hopefully it will be objective, including the support and rejection of Che Guevara. Che Guevara had mixed support, to some he was venerable revolutionary who was earnestly seeking to improve the conditions of Cuba, but to others he was a violent oppressive leader who sought power like any other would be dictator. He was a hero to some, a monster to others.

Seven Pounds: Jelly Fish

Official Site: www.sevenpounds.com
Director(s): Gabriele Muccino
Writer(s): Grant Nieporte
Producer(s): Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal , James Lassiter, Will Smith, and Steve Tisch

Starring: Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson, Michael Ealy, and Barry Pepper, (IMDd).
Rated PG-13, 118 minutes.

Ben Thomas (Will Smith) is a distraught IRS tax collector who sought seven worthy people to help by selecting them from the IRS database. One of the people Thomas selected was Emily Posa (Rosario Dawson), a woman suffering from a heart condition that left her very little time to live. Thomas falls in love with Posa, and he ultimately helped her in way she could have never imagined.

It was difficult to understand the direction of the plot, but the film was crafted that way apparently. The plot emerged in the scene where he spoke to a laconic bed ridden senior about what type of person her general caretaker was. From that scene, one sensed, Ben Thomas wanted to help deserving people. It seemed Ben Thomas needed help also, because he appeared kind, but also bothered and plagued with anguish.

An inspirational film, Seven Pounds induces emotion, as Ben Thomas may serve as the archetype for those who want to learn self sacrifice. The acting was amazing, but Rosario Dawson is the winner. She played that role so well, such genuine emotion. It was difficult no to fall in love with Emily Posa. She was so beautiful and so sweet. According to metacritic.com the film received generally negative reviews, and according to rottenttomatoes.com the film earned 33 fresh tomatoes to 82 rotten ones thus far. This film fits somewhere between a B- and a C+. Yes Man: I'm Gonorrhea

Official Site: yesisthenewno.warnerbros.com
Director(s): Peyton Reed
Writer(s): Nicholas Stoller, Jarrad Paul, Andrew Mogel, and Danny Wallace.
Producer(s): Jim Carrey, David Heyman, Richard D. Zanuck
Starring: Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper, John Michael Higgins, Rhys Darby, and Danny Masterson(IMDb). Rated PG-13. 104 minutes.

Carl Allen is a loan officer who is recovering from a failed relationship from which his former girlfriend, Stephanie, left him unexpectedly. Carl has a problem. He says "no" very often. He lies to his best friend constantly about hanging out, by telling him that he is busy with things, when he has no serious obligations. One day when Carl was siting outside of the bank, his friend Nick notices him, and they speak briefly about life.

During the conversation, Nick tells Carl that he is a "yes man'' and how saying yes has opened up a the world to him. Nick invited Carl to a seminar and uncharacteristically Carl said yes, and his life would change.

As the film began to convey it's point, I thought to myself, certainly one cannot say "yes" to every request, and I quickly understood the message. From a practical perspective the message is " live a little", try something new, and enrich the experience between birth and death.

Carl was unhappy in his redundant life, but his unhappiness was apparently his comfort zone, and he said no to requests that required him to take a step outside if his comfort zone.

This film was funny, but not hilarious. The comedic timing was good, and the story was interesting because it dealt with love, loneliness, and open mindedness. This film inspired me. After watching the film I realized it is good to try something new once in a while.

Jim Carey was magnificent, and so was Zooey Deschanel. They interacted well on screen. According to metacritic.com the film received mixed reviews, and according to rottentomatoes.con the film was granted 45 fresh tomatoes to 56 rotten ones thus far. This film fits somewhere between a B-, and a C+. Stay tuned, movieporium.blogpsot.com.

Britney Spears

This film was released in 2007. During that period there was no major adoration of the film, but it certainly received my adoration. The film was mellifluous. Also, the pace of the film was just right, and so was the tone. To expound on the tone, as the story developed the general feel of the movie was sustained, as the film was characterized by a sophisticated methodical evil, galvanized by the actions of the main character on account of his alter ego. Mr. Brooks's hunger to kill is instigated by his cynical alter ego Marshall, played by William Hurt. Mr. Brooks script.

Eddie Murphy As The Next Riddler ?

According to popeater.com, and inside source from the British newspaper The Sun, alleges that Eddie Murphy has signed up to play the role of the The Riddler in the upcoming Batman movie scheduled for release in 2010. Eddie Murphy as The Riddler is a far departure from Johny Depp, who was rumored to play the role initially. Imagining Murphy as the The Riddler is rather difficult, but what one cannot imagine is not a necessary indication that it cannot be done. Already there is disapproval. Based on the comments that were written about the article, some feel Murphy is a bad choice for the role, if indeed he has signed up to play the role. In the same article Rachel Weisz was rumored to be the next Catwoman, and Shia Lebeouf was rumored to be Robin. Rachel Weisz is not a bad choice, but adding Robin to this batman franchise is not a good choice. Christian Bale expressed his disapproval about introducing Robin in an interview with Charlie Rose during the time Batman Begins was in release or about to be released. Hopefully Eddie Murphy will not play The Riddler, preferably Johny Depp will. Check out the interview.

Watchmen

Definitely I must watch this film. It seems like it will surely please those who love special effects, plus the characters look so cool. I'm afraid of doing research on the comic book because I do not want to be disappointed with the film.

Wonder Woman: Lynda Carter

I loved watching wonder Wonder Woman, but there are certain things I could never figure out, like how she could find the invisible jet. Here is an episode from AOL Video. Lynda Carter is so sexy. 2011 marks the return of Wonder Woman but on the big screen.

There Will Be Blood: I Drink Your Milk Shake

This film has an amazing script that features amazing dialogue filled with memorable lines. I find myself constantly saying lines from this film like, "Drainage Eli, you boy." Although, the following scene is considerably callous, I enjoyed how well Daniel Plainview's heartless nature was presented.

Ahh...of course, there is the very famous"I drink your milkshake", line that was bound to become a movie classic because it was delivered so well, so powerfully.

Finally,"I have abandoned my child". Again this is another line delivered so powerfully.

Check out all the memorable lines yourself. Here is the entire script, hopefully in its authentic form.

UFOs: Aliens?

This is a trailer for a UFO documentary, and like many UFO documentaries typically found on the Internet and in the mainstream media, there seldom is definitive proof. To be fair definitive proof of aliens is difficult to obtain because of government obstruction, and an apparent minimal amount of contact with aliens, or so we are led to believe.

X-men Origins: Wolverine

Ok,this looks really good. Action packed filled with special effects. After the transformers' sequel this may be the most anticipated movie for the summer of 2009, but the box office king for the upcoming year may be the transformers sequel. I Think "Wolverine" will definitely be in the top 5. Anyway, enjoy the trailer.

JCVD: PS3

Jean-Claude Van Damme is starring in a new film. Seemingly it is not straight to DVD, and the reviews for the film have been mainly positive. Admittedly, the film does look intriguing for it depicts Van Damme as a person who is struggling to be a good actor, a good father, and a good role model. Based on the trailer, Van Damme is portrayed as self deprecating, desperate, and frustrated. The preceding qualities belie the strong, invincible, and belligerent characters moviegoers are accustomed to seeing Van Damme perform. This film looks rather promising. I'm absolutely intrigued.

Network: CBS- I'm Mad As Hell

I heard so much about this movie. And when I finally decided to allocate time to watch this film I doubted the amount of energy I would have to invest to pay careful attention to all the details in the film. Network was so engaging with its raw erudite dialogues, its unfiltered presentations of what many consider facts of life such as inevitable extra marital affairs, executive greed, and the impending midlife crisis, that I was compelled to continue watching despite how tired I was. The most impressive element of this film was how controversial impactful messages possess the ability to attract; thus such impactful messages can be tailored to obtain that end. When Howard Beal yelled "bool shit", the executives ultimately saw his noble rantings as a way of increasing ratings, even though Howard Beal yelled "bool shit" because he was experiencing a mental and emotional collapse. Although Howard Beal's mental breakdown is the center feature of this film, it is the imporatnt messages his precarious mental state produced that bounded me this film.

Delgo: Womanizer

Official Site: www.delgo.com
Director(s): Marc F. Adler, Jason Maurer
Writer(s): Marc F. Adler, Scott Biear
Producer(s): Marc F. Adler

Starring: Freddie Prinze Jr., Chris Kattan, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Anne Bancroft, Val Kilmer,
Malcolm McDowell, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Louis Gossett Jr.(IMDd). Rated PG, 90min.

Delgo is a Lockni teenager who witnessed his parents get murdered by troops from the Nohrin army as a child. The Nohrin and Lockni are enemies because of the Nohrin occupation of Lockni territory. But the situation begins to change when the Nohrin princess saves Delgo as he fell from a brittle branch. Instantly the two were attracted to each other, and this attraction would later be key to help establish peace amongst the two nations, meanwhile trying to fight the excommunicated maniacal family member, Sedessa.

Huh? Where did this animation film come from? The marketing was practically nonexistent. I have no recollection of seeing a trailer. In any event, the story of this film was nice. It involved love, politics, war, and and the search for peace. The main character was Delgo, who was a passionate teenager who could be described as irascible, but brave, witty, and forgiving. One character that was rather annoying was his clumsy sidekick. Adventurous in a fantasy format, Delgo had fantastical creatures for moviegoers whol like movies like Pan's Labrynth. The pace of the film was good, the action was sufficient, and it was entertaining, but nothing extraordinary. I'll grade it a C+. Stay Tuned, Movieporium.blogspot.com.

Official Site: thedaytheearthstoodstillmovie.com

Writer(s):David Scarpa, Edmund H. North
Producer(s): Paul Harris Boardman, Gregory Goodman, Erwin Stoff
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, Jaden Smith, John Cleese, and Jon Hamm (IMDb). Rated PG-13, 103 min.

Klaatu is an alien visitor with the objective of saving planet earth from its inhabitants, namely human beings. Far more superior in almost every aspect, Klaatu (Reeves) astounds earthlings and frightens them as well, especially, when they realize his plans to save the planet without saving them. This film met my expectations, because my expectations were not that high, but not in a pejorative manner. Very entertaining, and partially suspenseful, the film was wrought sufficiently enough to keep one entertained.

The special effects were good, and the story was good as well. And the casting for the leading role was superb. Keeanu Reeves was absolutely right for the part of Klaatu. Although the film was entertaining, it would have benefited greatly from more suspense, and more details about Klaatu's civilization. The pace of the film was good.

Definitely no lag. One scene in the movie that was pronounced was when Klaatu recognized how dichotomous humans are, as he watched Helen (Connelly) comfort her disconsolate son Jacob(Jayden Smith). This scene moved me.

Furthermore, this film aroused a sense of hope, that perhaps indeed on the precipice of total demise, earthlings can amend their ways. According to Metacritic.com the film received mixed reviews, and according to Rottentomatoes.com the film was granted 29 fresh tomatoes to 97 rotten ones. This film was OK I'll grade it a C+. Official Site: www.punisherwarzonemovie.com
Director(s): Lexi Alexander,
Writer(s): Nick Santora, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway
Producer(s): Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd,

Starring:Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Doug Hutchison,Colin Salmon, Wayne Knight(IMDb). Rated-R. 107 min.

Frank Castle is, "The Punisher", as many comic book fans already know. Ray Stevenson was right for the role, and on that note so was his predecessor. This version of "The Punisher" can be called a graphic novel in movie form, or simply, it is "The Punisher" with a Lions Gate touch, which indicates plenty of gore. At some point I was not sure that the film needed to be so gory, but considering graphic novels, gore would be central to the visual and entertainment value of the novel. So why not the same on screen. Gore aside, this was a well crafted action movie that portrayed "The Punisher" as close to the comic book as possible. Frank Castle is dark, justifiably bellicose, and he is driven by the need to bring hard justice to the bad guys. There was plenty of action, but again nothing groundbreaking, just new fashioned good guy exploding the bad guy in an entertaining manner. The pace of the film was good. The acting was good, although I had to warm up to Dominic West as "Jigsaw. According to Rottentomatoes.com the film received 11 fresh tomatoes to 54 rotten ones thus far. And according to Metacritic.com the film received generally negative reviews. I disagree with the critics. This was a great action movie! I'll give it a B+. Transporter 3: Kiss Me For The Keys

Official Site: transporter3film.com
Director(s):Olivier Megaton
Writer(s):Luc Besson, Robert Mark Kamen
Producer(s): Luc Besson, Steve Chasman

Starring: Jason Statham as Frank Martin, Natalya Rudakova as Valentina, Francois Berleand as Tarconi, Jeroen Krabbe as Leonid Vasilev, and Robert Knepper as Johnson (IMDb). Rated PG-13, 100 min.

Frank Martin is sitting in his living room, and he begins to look for something between the crease of the cushions of his sofa. After a few seconds he stands, and a car comes crashing through his living room. In the driver seat is a severely wounded man in the same line of work Frank is in who is accompanied by Valentina the daughter of the Minister who has been kidnapped, and is being used to black mail the Minister into signing documents that will allow a corporation to dump toxic chemicals illegally. Although Frank did not want the job of delivering Valentina, he found himself in a room, unconscious, and with a gun eventually pointed at his head, he got the job whether or not he wanted to.

This is the first transporter film I have seen on the big screen, and gladly so. It was a stylish film endowed with explosions, car chases, great fight scenes , a pretty girl, and an off beat french detective. There were no disappointments. An action film is what was expected, and an action film is what was delivered. Jason Statham is a top notch action star, and it's great to watch him. Yes this was an action film, but the story is worthy of mention because of its political substance. Great action movie, nothing extraordinary, but absolutely entertaining. According to Metacritic.com the film received mixed reviews, and according to Rottentomatoes.com the film received 27 fresh tomatoes to 46 rotten ones thus far. This film was very entertaining. Role Models: Whispering Eye

Official Site: www.rolemodelsmovie.com
Director(s): David Wain
Writer(s): David Wain and Paul Rudd...
Producer(s): Luke Greenfield, Mary Parent, Matthew Siegel, and Scott Stuber.

Starring: Sean William Scott as Wheeler, Paul Rudd as Danny Donahue, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Augie Farks, Bobb' e J. Thompson as Ronnie Shields, Elizabeth Banks as Beth, Jane Lynch as Gale Sweeney(IMDb). 99min, Rated-R.

Wheeler and Danny work as promoters for an energy drink company, and their current project is to travel to schools on a "say no to drugs" campaign while simultaneously trying to gain a share of the youth market. Wheeler is incredibly happy being the company mascot, but Danny is not so happy. He feels he is in a dead-end job that is unacceptable for a man who is 35 years old. As a result Danny is very pessimistic, a pessimism that annoys his girlfriend Beth greatly. An incident in a coffee shop led Beth to realize how much of a "dick" Danny really is, and a break-up followed at Beth's law office. Being distraught and agitated from the break-up, at their next school promotion, Danny's antics resulted in a court order that required him and Wheeler to perform community service at a foundation where they both meet their "littles".

Again, this is another movie that I was not too excited about seeing that surprised me. The irreverent humor was not so witty but straight forward. The punchlines were not cerebral, but their delivery was well executed. The impetus of the dialogues in relation to its comedic value, was how the humor was delivered properly in context, and with good timing. In scenes featuring Jane Lynch (Gale Sweeney), her character was so strange, and she induced so much awkwardness that it makes one laugh. Over all , the story was great. The pace of the film was just right, and so was the casting. Funny but not hilarious, Role Models is definitely worth seeing. According Metacritic.com this film received mixed reviews, and according to Rottentomatoes.com this film received 86 fresh tomatoes to 27 rotten ones thus far. Good stuff, I'll give it a C+. Quantum Of Solace: Bond, James Bond

Quantum of Solace was a film that I was eagerly anticipating. And my anticipation was not met with disappointment. There was action in this Bond from the beginning to the end. The production of the film was amazing although there was not as many gadgets in this Bond film in contrast to the previous Bond films. Technologically the film was not as sophisticated as the others, but the rugged action sequences compensated for that greatly, because the absence of the gadgets were not noticeable unless serious thought was invested. In addition to the gadgets, the classic trademark "Bond, James Bond", was also missing. Daniel Craig is certainly not a pretty Bond, but he does possess a rugged elegance that works well. Unprecedented, Craig is muscular and the previous Bonds were not. Seemingly this bond was tailored to perform acrobatically. I'm a huge James Bond fan, and I love the change. I give this film a B+ because the action scenes were very entertaining, and the dialogue was rich, but I'm critical of the hand to hand combat scene, that was way too reminiscent of the scene in the last Bourne film.

Blindness: Third Ward

Official Site:www.blindness-themovie.com
Director: Fernando Meirelles
Writer(s): Jose Saramago and Don Mckellar
Producer(s): Andrea Barata Ribeiro, Niv Fichman, and Sonoko Sakai

Starring: Julianne Moore as Doctor's wife, Danny Glover as Man with eye patch, Mark Ruffalo as Doctor, Alice Braga as Woman with dark glasses, Gael Garcia Bernard as king of ward three, and Yusuke Iseya as first blind man(IMDb).Rated-R 120 minutes.

Mysteriously the film begins with an Asian man who is causing traffic on account of sudden blindness. After being accompanied by an altruistic man ,who later becomes blind, the Asian man, hours later, along with his wife went to see a doctor who could not provide a diagnosis as to the cause of the blindness. The following morning the doctor became blind along with an increasing number of people who were ultimately sequestered into a ward where they had to struggle to survive.

The acting was amazing. The desperation of the people who were subject to the blindness was conveyed well. Julianne Moore was riveting and brave in he role as the doctor's wife. Speaking of doctors, Ruffalo was just right for the part of the soft spoken but logical would be leader. Glover as the wise and gentle man was also testimony of good casting.

Certain scenes in this film made me so uncomfortable, not because they were bad because they were crafted in tuned with situations and conditions that would challenge our morals. Such scenes beg the question, does morality or survival take precedence in the midst of uncomprisable circumstances? This was one those films where as a movie watcher one could not help but feel intense sympathy toward  some of the characters. According to Metacritic.com the film received mixed reviews. I like this film. B+. Stay tuned, Movieporium.blogspot.com.

Jerry Shaw is an average hardworking wage earner at the Copy Cabana who is struggling to pay is rent on time. One day he went to withdraw some cash at the ATM, and surprisingly his account ,which usually reads insufficient funds, was endowed with over $700,000 dollars. After withdrawing almost all the money he runs to his apartment only to receive a phone call from a woman warning him that the FBI will be at his door soon, as he noticed all sorts of materials that could be used for making bombs in his apartment. Later, after being apprehended and broken out of custody with the aid of the mystery woman on the phone, Shaw encounters others who are in the same position that he is.

If you wish to continue using using your cell phone, your Internet, and your computer, the advice to not watch this movie is in order. This film induces serious thought about how much of our activity is recorded with or without the threat of terrorism. Almost every aspect of our economic lives is known in some capacity through our purchases and our cyber-activities. I seems the film is asking people to be mindful of their privacy.

This was  a good action film that had plenty of chases to deliver what it promised. Labeouf was great in this film, and his chemistry with Monaghan was delightful. The story was descent, and it was entertaining, but again this film was not extraordinary; it was simply a good movie. According to Metacritic.com the film received mixed reviews, and according to Rottentomatoes.com the film earned 25 fresh tomatoes to 75 rotten ones thus far. I will grade it a C+. Stay tuned, movieporiumblogspot.com.

Righteous Kill and Lakeview Terrace

A quick review on Righteous Kill, It was great to finally see Dinero and  Pacino acting side by side, but I wish it was in a film that was consequential. Certainly  the preceding wish is not asserting that this film was not satisfactory. Seeing these two greats in an awesome movie rather than a film that was simply satisfactory was how I would have liked to see these magnates of the acting world perform side by side.  I will grade this movie a C+ because it was not extraordinary, but it was worth seeing.

Lakeview Terrace was surprisingly intense. Samuel Jackson played his role so well he made me feel uncomfortable. I truly disliked his character. He was annoying and controlling, but worst of all he thought he was righteous when he was not. The subject matter of interracial relationships was the basal conflict contributing to the acerbic and intrusive disposition of Jackson's character. The family conflicts that are quite often endemic to interracial relationships is also explored in this film. This film was surprisingly good although the ending was rather predictable. I will grade it a C+.

Burn After Reading: These Files Man!

Official Site: www.burnafterreading.com
Director(s): Ethan and Joel Coen
Writers(s): Ethan and Joel Coen
Producers(s): Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Ethan Coen, and Joel Coen

Starring: George Clooney as Harry Pfarrer, Frances Mcdormand as Linda Litzke, Brad Pitt as Chad Feldheimer, John Malkovich as Osborne Cox, Tilda Swinton as Katie Cox, and Richard Jenkins as Ted Treffon(IMDb). Rated-R, 96 min.

Chad Feldheimer and Linda Litzke possess a disk which they believe contains very important CIA information. As a result they  traced the disk to Osborne Cox, a former intelligence analyst who is writing a memoir about his past career in the CIA. Chad and Linda try to blackmail Cox. They will provide him the disk in exchange for money. However, the acerbic Cox, deemed  the two as idiots, and he did not agree to their demands, and afterward, things get very interesting.

Through most  of the film I kept on wondering about what will ultimately happen to tie all these characters together, and once these characters were tied together by a  commonality then what?  A  variety of factors tied all these characters together, but at the end of the film one can certainly surmise, the commonality was an innocent contradictory mischief. The main characters were desperate about lust, money and self improvement. The acting was amazing, and the big names and not so big names were official.

The film was not only about blackmail. Divorce, and the difficulty of relationships was a prominent force in this film. As this aspect of the film began to emerge, so did a streak of depression. I felt so hopeless about marriage, because the film showed how success in a career does not equate to success in a private life, or a relationship, that is financially well funded. This movie is dynamic, cleverly written, and it arouses and awesome mind orgasm. According to Metacritic.com the film received generally good reviews, and Rottentomatoes.com gave the film 97 fresh tomatoes to 28 rotten ones thus far. Awesome movie, B+. Dark Knight Again

Before the dark knight went out of theaters I decided to see it one more time, and I enjoyed it  immensely, but not only that, I understood the film even more. The show-times have diminished and all good things must come to an end. The film has earned over $500,000,000, an estimate that exceeded  the 210-220 million I thought the film was going to earn. This flick was official. Good Bye Batman.

Bangkok Dangerous: Elephant Trunk

Official Site: www.bangkokdangerousmovie.net
Director: Oxide Pang Chung, and Danny Pang
Writers: Jason Richman, and Oxide Pang Chung
Producers: Nicolas Cage, Norman Golightly, William Sherak, Jason Shuman,

Starring: Nicolas Cage as Joe, Shahkrit Yamnarm as Kong, Panward Hammanee as Aom, and Nirattisai Kaljaruek as Surat(IMDb). Rated-R, 99min.

Joe is a hired assassin  who is a strict observer of the code which includes not being emotionally intimate with anyone, but this cold and calculating assassin's heart was softened by a pharmacists and a hustler who believed that ultimately he was a good guy. The relationship he developed with the hustler and pharmacists will determine the outcome of his life in the long run.

Joe was a complex character who had insightful ideas relating to his line of work. Humans can become different species, so it is important to explore the society if  a person in his line of work wanted to develop a keen sense of the people in that particular society. Joe's sense of duty was clearly explained through his autobiographical narrative, and the preceding sentence his an example of that. At some point in the movie joe became pliable, but and incident with his love interest caused him to relapse into callousness.

The action in this film was slow and methodical rather than fast pace and ostentatious, but it was acute. The action scenes had to be constructed in this manner because Joe was very slow and methodical and not fast paced and ostentatious. More than an action movie, this film had an emotionality that was  adequate without overpowering the action. The texture of this film seemed just right. This was an enjoyable action drama. According to  Metacritic.com, the film received generally bad reviews, and Rottentomatoes.com granted it 4 fresh tomatoes to  37 rotten ones. I disagree with the bad reviews. This movie fits between a B- and C+. Stay tuned, movieporium.blogspot.com.
