JCVD: PS3

Jean-Claude Van Damme is starring in a new film. Seemingly it is not straight to DVD, and the reviews for the film have been mainly positive. Admittedly, the film does look intriguing for it depicts Van Damme as a person who is struggling to be a good actor, a good father, and a good role model. Based on the trailer, Van Damme is portrayed as self deprecating, desperate, and frustrated. The preceding qualities belie the strong, invincible, and belligerent characters moviegoers are accustomed to seeing Van Damme perform. This film looks rather promising. I'm absolutely intrigued.

Network: CBS- I'm Mad As Hell

I heard so much about this movie. And when I finally decided to allocate time to watch this film I doubted the amount of energy I would have to invest to pay careful attention to all the details in the film. Network was so engaging with its raw erudite dialogues, its unfiltered presentations of what many consider facts of life such as inevitable extra marital affairs, executive greed, and the impending midlife crisis, that I was compelled to continue watching despite how tired I was. The most impressive element of this film was how controversial impactful messages possess the ability to attract; thus such impactful messages can be tailored to obtain that end. When Howard Beal yelled "bool shit", the executives ultimately saw his noble rantings as a way of increasing ratings, even though Howard Beal yelled "bool shit" because he was experiencing a mental and emotional collapse. Although Howard Beal's mental breakdown is the center feature of this film, it is the imporatnt messages his precarious mental state produced that bounded me this film.

Delgo is a Lockni teenager who witnessed his parents get murdered by troops from the Nohrin army as a child. The Nohrin and Lockni are enemies because of the Nohrin occupation of Lockni territory. But the situation begins to change when the Nohrin princess saves Delgo as he fell from a brittle branch. Instantly the two were attracted to each other, and this attraction would later be key to help establish peace amongst the two nations, meanwhile trying to fight the excommunicated maniacal family member, Sedessa.

Huh? Where did this animation film come from? The marketing was practically nonexistent. I have no recollection of seeing a trailer. In any event, the story of this film was nice. It involved love, politics, war, and and the search for peace. The main character was Delgo, who was a passionate teenager who could be described as irascible, but brave, witty, and forgiving. One character that was rather annoying was his clumsy sidekick. Adventurous in a fantasy format, Delgo had fantastical creatures for moviegoers whol like movies like Pan's Labrynth. The pace of the film was good, the action was sufficient, and it was entertaining, but nothing extraordinary. I'll grade it a C+. Stay Tuned, Movieporium.blogspot.com.

The Day The Earth Stood Still: Precipice

Klaatu is an alien visitor with the objective of saving planet earth from its inhabitants, namely human beings. Far more superior in almost every aspect, Klaatu (Reeves) astounds earthlings and frightens them as well, especially, when they realize his plans to save the planet without saving them.This film met my expectations, because my expectations were not that high, but not in a pejorative manner. Very entertaining, and partially suspenseful, the film was wrought sufficiently enough to keep one entertained.

The special effects were good, and the story was good as well. And the casting for the leading role was superb. Keeanu Reeves was absolutely right for the part of Klaatu. Although the film was entertaining, it would have benefited greatly from more suspense, and more details about Klaatu's civilization. The pace of the film was good. 

Definitely no lag. One scene in the movie that was pronounced was when Klaatu recognized how dichotomous humans are, as he watched Helen (Connelly) comfort her disconsolate son Jacob(Jayden Smith). This scene moved me. 

Furthermore, this film aroused a sense of hope, that perhaps indeed on the precipice of total demise, earthlings can amend their ways. According to Metacritic.com the film received mixed reviews, and according to Rottentomatoes.com the film was granted 29 fresh tomatoes to 97 rotten ones. This film was OK I'll grade it a C+. Frank Castle is, "The Punisher", as many comic book fans already know. Ray Stevenson was right for the role, and on that note so was his predecessor. This version of "The Punisher" can be called a graphic novel in movie form, or simply, it is "The Punisher" with a Lions Gate touch, which indicates plenty of gore. At some point I was not sure that the film needed to be so gory, but considering graphic novels, gore would be central to the visual and entertainment value of the novel. So why not the same on screen. Gore aside, this was a well crafted action movie that portrayed "The Punisher" as close to the comic book as possible. Frank Castle is dark, justifiably bellicose, and he is driven by the need to bring hard justice to the bad guys. There was plenty of action, but again nothing groundbreaking, just new fashioned good guy exploding the bad guy in an entertaining manner. The pace of the film was good. The acting was good, although I had to warm up to Dominic West as "Jigsaw. According to Rottentomatoes.com the film received 11 fresh tomatoes to 54 rotten ones thus far. And according to Metacritic.com the film received generally negative reviews. I disagree with the critics. This was a great action movie! I'll give it a B+.
